So today marks 4 years since 17 year old Jake officially asked me to be his girlfriend, we were sat on his little old single bed in his bedroom chatting away when I said something along the lines of ‘you know what I mean, I call you my boyfriend to other people because it’s easier than saying *guy I have a sort of thing with”’ in which he replied ‘well, do you want to be my girlfriend?’. Now here we are at a point where we wear each others clothes so often that I’ve forgotten who actually owned half of it to start with…
Jake and I usually don’t do bought anniversary presents, we are very much a sentimental home-made/handwritten kinda couple on anniversaries but when Emma from Bakerdays emailed me asking if I would like to review one of their fabulous cakes, I couldn’t help but think this would be a perfect addition to our special day because as well as adoring each other we also bloody love cake! (I mean, who doesn’t?)
I chose the Floral Heart Photo Cake design and made it my own with the text and the photograph of us which I thought was lovely as it makes it look professional and pretty with that personalised touch. I requested that the cake arrive a little before our anniversary on the 19th and it arrived on the 17th, perfectly in time for our weekend celebrations but not too early so it was still super fresh and flavourful for us to tuck into.
It arrived wrapped up perfectly in a cute tin to keep it fresh and intact inside a little cardboard box that fit perfectly through the letterbox. It also came with a little pack of balloons, candles and a party horn which was an adorable touch! Such a brilliant idea for when you’re sending a cake for someones birthday.
If you’ve read my recent post on the Free From Food Festival you’ll know I’ve been on a gluten and dairy free diet for a little while now and to my pleasant surprise, Bakerdays cater perfectly for it too which I wasn’t expecting! In fact I probably got a little TOO excited about it. As much as I love Jake, I also want to be able to eat the cake so of course i went for the free from sponge cake with jam option for flavour, they also offer many other delicious recipes that you can find over on their website here.
We went to Grounded for Dinner last night as they do absolutely amazing gluten and dairy free pizzas which was perfect for me and then we came home, got into our PJs and watched First Dates!
Today is our actual anniversary so we were going to go for a champagne afternoon tea at Browns but I woke up feeling like a train had hit me so we unfortunately had to reschedule. But it’s okay as we have left over pizza and we’ve had a lovely slice of the cake for breakfast that Jake was absolutely delighted with.
We both thought there was a perfect ratio of icing to jam to sponge, you wouldn’t even be able to tell it was gluten and dairy free as it is so creamy, tasty and light. I’m not usually a huge fan of icing but it’s super gorgeous and sweet with hints of vanilla, it honestly melts in your mouth and the sponge isn’t crumbly at all which is what I expected with it being gluten free! It has the perfect density and I will definitely be trying out other flavours in the future. The polite service, fast delivery and the personal and super tasty cake gets a huge 10 from me, I would highly recommend Bakerdays for any occasion!
