Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation and Concealer!

Hey everyone!

As promised, I am starting to upload more makeup posts on here again and it feels good! I’ve recently been working on a makeup project with a company that will hopefully be out in the public eye soon so I can share it with you – it has been pushing me to get my makeup mojo back!

After a recent Influenster box was sent out (that I sadly didn’t get picked for, you can read my review on the one I DID get picked for here) I heard a lot of people raving about these two products in particular. It took me a while to go and pick them up as base products are something I have quite specific criteria with e.g. they usually ALWAYS have to be matte and full coverage as I suffer with uneven skin tone and large pores. Rimmel is also a brand that I’ve never really tried as in all honestly I don’t really see it talked about or advertised a lot so when shopping around I can’t say it really draws me in.

I also started to see lots of people talking about how the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer has been breaking them out badly and although my medication randomly breaks me out anyway, I started to notice that the places on my face I generally used my concealer were worse than elsewhere so I needed to invest in something new to see if this was the case! Here are my thoughts…

Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation // £8.99

I picked this up in the palest shade “Light Porcelain” as it was the more yellow toned out of the palest colours. The first thing I noticed about this foundation was the soft stick applicator, SO UNBELIEVABLY HANDY! You literally just dip the stick in, shove it on your face then dab with a blender. No mess or waste of pumping or squeezing it onto the back of your hand first!

I do find the smell of this foundation quite odd, it’s not a big deal and not odd enough to put me off of it but it definitely doesn’t have that foundation kind of scent that most of them do. On applying it to the face it is quite liquidy so I did wonder how it was going to have the medium to full coverage that everyone has been claiming it does but with a trusty beauty blender it didn’t let me down.

It blends and settles onto the skin so easily and adds a subtle dewy glow. It feels so light and as if you’ve barely got anything on the skin but gives a strong medium coverage making it a great foundation to use every day and one of those products you can trust to be able to use for casual or more important events. I am using this product consistently at the moment and imagine I will be repurchasing, it is brilliant!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer // £6.49

I picked this up in the second palest shade “100” as for once I think the palest shade was actually TOO pale for me due to it having a sort of white-ish undertone to it rather than a warm, yellowy colour. The applicator on this concealer is a little sponge on the end of a squeezy tube which again is super easy to apply straight to the face before blending which I love.

Again, the formula is really liquidy like the foundation but it does give a surprisingly good coverage although I wouldn’t say it was quite up there with my Collection one as it doesn’t do that great a job at covering my dark circles. I’d say the concealer gives a bit more of a matte finish than the foundation does too, which creates a bit of an odd base for the foundation to go on to but it works surprisingly well.

I really do like this concealer for everyday casual wear but it isn’t one for when you’re needing full coverage and I found it really isn’t lasting me very well. On my third use I was struggling to get product out of the tube, I’m not entirely sure whether it’s a bit of a fault in the design or whether there just isn’t that much product in it. It is a real shame as after giving my collection concealer a rest, my skin has improved so my skin is telling me I need to replace it but I’m not happy with paying £6.49 for barely any product!

Doesn’t quite cover all of my uneven skin or circles but it’s still pretty good!

Have you tried either of these Rimmel products or found that the Collection concealer has made your skin worse? Do you have any other full coverage drug store concealers you can recommend?

’Til next time,
BTB Xx

  1. I’m exactly the same as you in what I want from a foundation, a matte, full coverage in a very pale shade.. 🙊 I’ve heard some really amazing things about foundation, especially after so many people received it in the Vox Box, but I was concerned about the level of coverage, and the exact same for the concealer! You and your skin actually looks flawless though, and while I may not pick up the concealer, I’m even more tempted by the foundation now.. 🙊

I was so skeptical but I actually really love it! The concealer is a shame as the formula is pretty good, I literally just don’t understand how it wouldn’t come out after barely using any of it! X

  2. Ooh I’ve never tried either of these, but I love that the foundation has a stick applicator – that’s awesome! I’m not one for concealer anyway, it always creases on me and never covers up what I want it to so I don’t usually bother with it haha!xo

  5. Emma says:

Ah wow, that foundation actually looks amazing on your skin and for such a reasonable price as well! Shame about the concealer, perhaps a design fault with the applicator but not fun if you can’t get the product out easily! x

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

Thank you 🙂 I know I was chuffed with the price for the quality! Yeah it is a shame but hopefully something they’ll address! X

  9. I also love a matte high coverage foundation and have been loving using one from the body shop, this sounds right up my street though and something I’d like to try! Loved the photography <3

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

Ah I’ve tried all of The Body Shops foundations and didn’t get on with any of them which is a shame 🙁 I love a lot of their other makeup though! Thank you 🙂 X

  10. Gemma says:

I don’t like either of these products, I got sent them and don’t get on with them at all! The concealer is the weirdest formula I’ve ever known a concealer to have, not a fan at all x

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

Oh that’s such a shame! It seems like people either love or hate them from what I’ve seen x

  11. Gemma says:

I have real trouble finding a foundation that doesn’t affect my sensitive skin. So I just don’t wear it! If I did though, I feel like I would try Rimmel as it sounds a good coverage and how cool is that concealer, definitely makes things 100% times easier to apply. The coverage looks good and makes your skin look brilliant.

Thank you so much! I would definitely recommend it, I’ve been using it so much! X

  13. Alice says:

This is by far my favourite foundation for everyday, I love that you can’t even feel it on your face but yet it does a fab job of covering up imperfections despite being lighter in coverage. I did find that after a while of using mine it started to oxidise quite a lot so I’ve since bought a lighter shade. I love the applicator as well, it really is so handy! Your skin looks amazing here x

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

And it looks gorgeous on you! Your selfies definitely persuaded me to buy it more than anything else haha, ooh really? I haven’t noticed that with mine yet but I have the palest shade so I wouldn’t really be able to do much hah! Thank you 🙂 X

  14. Alicia says:

This product sounds amazing! I like the sound the concealer, I’ve read so many good reviews about it recently! May have to check it out xx

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

Peoples reviews made me buy it and I’m so glad I did! Xx

  15. Rachael says:

So interesting to read your thoughts on these! The foundation makes you look flawless! I actually got the rimmel vox box and was really disappointed, the foundation was too pink and too dark and the concealer was too yellow and too dark!

Thank you so much! Aww no that’s such a shame 🙁 I’ve heard great things and I’ve heard rubbish things about them, I guess not everything is suitable for everyone! X

  16. Joyce Lau says:

I’ve always found the collection concealer a bit dry for me especially under my eyes since it enhances my fine lines. Also I always skim past the rimmel counter too . I recommmend the bourjois healthy mix foundation and concealer x

    1. blacktulipbeauty says:

It can be a bit hit or miss, I find it’s a bit cakey on my dryer skin days! My friend loves those but I definitely have a lot of products to use before I buy anymore haha! X

  17. Julia says:

Rimmel is my favourite drugstore brand, it’s by a mile the best compared to others I’ve tried. I haven’t tried this foundation yet, I like to play it safe when it comes to makeup so very often I end up buying the same one over and over again. You look so beautiful! This is a gorgeous look, I love it.

  18. Leslie says:

I neee a foundation that’s more full coverage and matte! I’m glad you found this one worked for you!

  19. Anu says:

All the Lasting Finish products have been on my “to try” list for so long! I have been putting it off though as usually it’s so hard to find a shade that matches me especially when it comes to drugstore foundation. Usually everything is too pink… I really like the sound of the foundation though, so I need to check out their shade range :)x
