What a mouthful the title of this post is, I LOVE it. I know Autumn isn’t quite here quite yet but I really am getting ready for it full speed ahead. I was born in May but I’m definitely not a Summer loving baby. Don’t get me wrong, I love the actual sun but heat is not something my body copes well with. I honestly wish it did because there are so many really hot and humid countries I am dying to visit but I’m pretty terrified that I’d get there and want to leave within a day because of how unwell it makes me feel. Along with that, I’m also someone who is quite obsessive about personal hygiene. Sweat does not sit well with me, I want to constantly be in the shower when it’s hot.
Autumn is one of those seasons where you can kind of still get away with remnants of Summer clothes but with an added jacket or a pair of tights. I find Autumn is my time to shine as I have clothes that essentially are the style for Summer but not the colour. So it means I can wear these clothes, not be too hot or cold and not get extremely odd looks for wearing black.
It also means that I can finally be wearing my beautiful (and far too huge) collection of wonderfully whacky shoes. Mostly consisting of Dr Martens covered in tattoo print or decked with double soles (hold tight for a full post on all of my Dr Martens). I am a mere 5ft 3 and for many years now I’ve been stockpiling shoes with super thick soles. I’m not really at all self-conscious about my height but I am a huge sucker for gothic-styled and chunky shoes. I dread to think just how much money all my shoes have cost because these kind of shoes really do not come cheap.
XYLondon Burgundy Creeper Pumps
When XYLondon got in contact offering to gift me a pair of shoes to style, I’ve got to say I was ecstatic. Despite not being your typical girly girl, shoes get a fire lit inside of me. Being someone who is very particular about her shoes, I was a tad apprehensive at first that I wouldn’t be able to find something very me. However, I opened the site, looked under the “flats” menu and saw the word “creepers” – SOLD. Otherwise known as beetle crushers or I’m pretty sure I’ve also heard them called teddy boy shoes!
I had two pairs of creepers from the brand Underground when I was in school and they were super popular. The sole is quite literally as thick as a brick on some of them and despite that, they’re actually quite comfy and make you feel and look a hell of a lot taller. I owned an emerald green pair with a black sole and a lilac pair with a white sole. Sadly for some reason I threw them out when we moved house and I mourn them and wanna hit myself every day for it. I recently bought a black pair second hand on eBay though with an animal print panel on the front. They are gorgeous and I’m TOO excited to wear them soon!
As I have a pair of regular creepers and I’m currently making a little bit more of an effort to dress slightly more feminine, I decide to go for the creeper pumps from XYLondon. I think the last time I wore pumps was in school when the choice was either them or daps. They are out of my comfort zone but boy are they cute! The burgundy ones really called out to me and they’re definitely more of a blood red than a purple burgundy which is super gorgeous and perfect for my style. The material is faux suede and the sole is 3.2cm thick. They have fringe detailing on the front and slip on like a dream. One thing I really struggle with usually with shoes is the back of them being hard too but these are super soft and flexible meaning no horrible blisters!
As someone with wide feet I can’t believe these actually fit so well either, they don’t squish my little toes like the majority of shoes. I must say they are probably a tad smaller than the average size length-wise though so it might be an idea to size up and get an insole if needed! I am a very average size 5 and they are slightly tight on my big toe but I am hoping once they’re properly broken in they’ll be more than fine. Saying that, I’ve worn them twice on outings now and they’ve been really lovely and comfortable to stroll around in. Check out the XYLondon site here to see more of the fabulous things that have on offer!
