I have been wanting to try a hot cloth cleanser for a long while now, especially the Superdrug one as I’ve heard so many fabulous things about it. When my friend Marika asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, the first thing I thought was of things that I could review for the blog (you can check out my latest makeup review here). The no7 one I managed to swindle from my mums no7 set that she picked up in the Boots sale so I could give it a try for review purposes. If it turns out to be my favourite, it might just end up with a permanent residence in my bedroom (shh).
Both came with cloths to use with which are designed to give the skin a gentle exfoliation aswell as a cleanse. I already like the sound of this as although I usually like to buy quite pricey products for my skin, I’m so lazy with my general skin routine at the moment. So to have a product that does both at once sounds pretty ideal to me.
I personally thought the cloth that came with this was surprisingly quite good quality for how much this product was. It’s a decent size and adequately soft with a slight roughness to it for gentle exfoliation. I really liked that it wasn’t too abrasive as I feel it wouldn’t be suitable for every day use otherwise. The directions are to apply the creamy cleanser to your face and neck, dampen the cloth with very warm water then remove it in circular motions.
The scent of it is much like the rest of the Vitamin E range from Superdrug which is subtle and ironically, a lightly creamy fragrance. The consistency is perfectly moderately thick and feels really soothing going onto the face. When using the cloth in circular motions, it removed all of my makeup completely effortlessly including mascara which I was really pleasantly surprised about. There was no fussing about with cotton pads and despite my skin looking a little red because of the warm water, it felt really super soft for quite a few hours afterwards.
I am so happy with how easy the whole process was, I was worried it was going to go all in my hair or make my face feel greasy and horrible. I actually think this is probably the easiest and quickest way I’ve found to remove my makeup. It’s also brilliant as it didn’t sting my face or eyes at all which is a problem I often get with makeup removers due to sensitivity. None of the bits I’ve tried from the Superdrug Vitamin E range have disappointed me so far and I’m so excited to try even more of it!
I was actually quite surprised when i saw the cloth that came with this cleanser as it just looks quite (dare I say) cheap in my opinion. I thought for the more expensive product and a brand like no7, it might’ve been a bit thicker or more luxury but apparently not. It reminds me of one of those thin bandages you can pick up from Boots and it’s quite a bit smaller than the Superdrug cloth.
The scent of it is admittedly a little more luxury and calming but the consistency is ever so slightly thinner. It reminds a bit of a lotion whereas the Superdrug one is more of a thick cream. It does feel nice being applied to the face and the applicator isn’t messy at all as it’s a pump which is handy. This cleanser was quite similar to the other in the fact that it did remove all traces of my makeup fairly easily but I’ve got to say I really hated the cloth. It’s just too abrasive and thin for the face. It might be suitable for people with tougher skin but I found by the end of it I really wanted to stop using it as it started to hurt.
After using this I unfortunately found my face felt dry and tight. I’m not sure whether it was mainly to do with the cloth being too abrasive or whether the cleanser just wasn’t very nourishing. I would have to say I don’t think I would use this again mainly for this reason as I can suffer with quite dry skin around this time of year and I wouldn’t want to accentuate it.
So there you have it, the Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser wins! Surprisingly the one that is half the price of the other. I would highly recommend this to anyone who feels they need a cheap, easy and nourishing cleanser. It’s fabulous! Have you tried any products from the Superdrug Vitamin E range?
