I feel like Summer is finally starting to saunter off now. The nights are getting darker again, there’s much more of a chill in the air and I can THANKFULLY sleep nice and snug under my duvet again. It won’t properly be gone for I’d say another month or so yet though and festival season isn’t over so we’re still going to talk about that kind of fashion. Alex Silver PR sent me over some lovely nail products which I felt definitely had huge Summer vibes to them. Some vibrant, some glittery and some patterned – something for everyone! I’ve previously done a post on Impress nails which you can check out here but here’s what I thought of the latest PR package I received…
On receiving the parcel, these were the ones that caught my eye straight away. I found this a little surprising as I’m really not usually the girliest when it comes to fashion and accessorising myself. I just thought the combination of the dusky pink and glitter was gorgeous and as they were nude they’d be suitable to wear with anything. I was going away to Cornwall for a few days visiting family so thought I’d apply them before heading down there. As I’ve used the Impress nails before and knew the tabs in those were impressive, I thought I’d try out the glue for these ones.
The Kiss nails come with a miniature emery board and a cuticle pusher to prepare the nails with. It’s then advised you prep the nails with an acetone based product before application. The Kiss nails also come with a small pot of glue aswell as a sheet of adhesive tabs but I decided to use the pot of glue I got sent as it’s the same formula but easier to use. The glue pot is in the same kind of bottle as a nail varnish and is brush on making it extremely easy to apply. It’s advised that you brush a coat of glue onto your nail and onto the fake nail before pressing it on.
Personally, I didn’t find the glue as long-wearing as the tabs which I found really surprising. I found initially that the thumbs kept popping off as they’re the parts of my hands I use the most. Deciding to use the adhesive tabs to re-apply them instead of the glue was the best decision. After that I had minimal problems and was just able to enjoy my gorgeous Summer nails! I took them off after around 6 days as I get quite anal about hygiene and getting bits of food etc stuck under them. They were easy enough to get off by soaking them in warm water for a short while at that point.
My cousin Caitlin came over one Saturday for afternoon tea with my mum, stepdad, Jake and I. As Alex Silver generously sent me over quite a few sets of nails and varnishes, I decided it’d be a great idea to give the ladies a manicure and let them give the Summer nails a try! I let them pick whether they wanted a set of fake nails or a painted manicure with the Leighton Denny polishes and of course they both went for a cute set of Impress nails. Impress nails already have an adhesive tab applied to them, you just have to peel the cover off and press the nail down so no adhesive is needed. I filed down and prepped their nails and got stuck in…
Caitlin chose these and I think they suited her hands beautifully! The pink really complimented her skin tone and she loved how there were a few different designs in the pack. We thought the holographic ones were meant for the ring finger and the patterned for the index finger but as Caitlins fingers/nails are so small, we had to end up using those for the middle finger instead. I think they ended up looking really lovely though and fit onto her nails perfectly.
My mum had a new teal dress and already blue/green toes so wanted some Summer nails that would match them quite well. This set went perfectly and she loved that they were matte and came with the one random glitter nail for the ring finger. The shade is quite an out there and bright one and is perfect for this time of year if you’re a summer colour lover.
I’ve still got one set of Kiss nails in “Whatever“ left to wear on an occasion soon so make sure you stay tuned on my Instagram (which you can find at the top of this page) to see what they look like!
Last but not least, the Leighton Denny polishes. I’ve only ever tried one of these before that I got in my M&S beauty Advent calendar last year. It was an iridescent glitter one and was quite honestly gorgeous. I always wear it without a base colour as it provides such decent coverage of the nail so I was super excited to finally try a block colour from them. The two polishes I received are from the “Havana Heat” collection and are more than perfect for Summer nails. The entire range screams colour and fun whilst still staying classy with two gorgeous pinks, a blue, a red, a pearl and of course a multicoloured glitter.
A coral red with a whole lot of fire. I recently applied this on both my finger and toenails for an event I attended. It looked stunning with a yellow skirt with red rose and polka dot detail paired with a red lip and black sandals. I applied it 3 days before the event and it was still looking perfect on the day and for a good week or so after too until my nails started to grow out. I found it only started to chip when I started biting my nails (bad habit, I know). Either way, I’m incredibly impressed as I’m one of those people who washes their hands constantly, too.
Like the clear blue tropical ocean. I’m not really a blue wearer as I have yellow toned skin so I’ve always thought it would be a clash for me. This surprisingly looked super lovely contrasted against my orange flip flops on the beach aswell as spruced up with some cool skull rings on my fingers. I decided to apply this just for everyday Summer wear and as with the Firecracker shade, I only felt the need to remove it when my nails began to grow out. I think I may have found my new favourite nail polish brand! Although I’m still pretty awful at painting my own nails…
It’s fair to say I’m starting to become a little more obsessed with my nails, as if I needed any other beauty products to want to spend my money on! What are your favourite false nails and polishes to buy?
