Wow it’s been a little while since I did a fashion post about clothing. I’ll be honest with you, Summer fashion isn’t usually my jam. Summer in general isn’t really. As much as I like the long light days for photography reasons and the uplifted spirit a lot of people seem to carry, warm weather makes me feel unwell. Even more so now I have a chronic illness. So I have really not been feeling getting all dressed up in this heatwave, it’s made me miserable! Luckily for me and my summer scrooge sidekicks, it’s cooled down slightly now so I can enjoy wearing actual clothes and applying makeup again!
The last wedding I went to was almost 6 years ago now and I was a bridesmaid so I didn’t get to style myself. I’ve recently had my 22nd birthday so I think I’m coming to that age where the first of my friends are starting to settle down and get married. Jake and I, however, are in no rush. We’re coming up to our five year anniversary and I couldn’t be happier with where we are now. We always think it’s funny as out of all the couples around our age that we know, we have been together the longest, yet we are so much more laid back about the idea of marriage, children etc than everyone else.
I struggled at first to know what to wear. Being an alternative fashion and black clothing lover, I panicked as you’re supposedly not meant to wear black to a wedding. Black clothing is the only sort of formal wear I tend to feel comfortable in but I thought I’d do my best to push the boat out as it’s Summer and I hadn’t properly dressed up in the longest time. I also said I wouldn’t wear heels, which I did and almost instantly regretted it. I am really not used to them and by the time we were making our way home to chill out prior to the reception, I was walking like a penguin stepping on nails. Not practical but hey they looked good.
I wanted my accessories to be quite feminine and soft to match my outfit. In my opinion, nothing says that like rose gold. I was also going to wear my new Adexe watch but forgot to put it on due to rushing around. I always turn to these pieces for events and special occasions as they’re just so gorgeous and easy to pair with so many different outfits. Every time I wear them it reminds me that I need to pick up some more rose gold jewellery for every day wear.
Last but not least, bringing the look together. My original plan as I was wearing a pretty loud and colourful outfit was plain old liner and red lips. As it’s a summer wedding I didn’t want anything too heavy either as I didn’t want it to be melting off of my face. Then I remembered that I’m a cryer. Would there be much worse than some nice black smudges around my eyes? I opted for a soft brown and gold smokey eye instead to go with the red lips. I thought it worked really well as it meant no weird dark smudges and ended up a really subtle and simple pretty look. For my hair I just took the standard route of adding a few curls and then decided it looked a lot better up with the neckline of my bodysuit.
I’m sure we’ll have a lot more to attend over the coming years and have already been invited to one next Summer! Have you attended a Summer wedding and what did you wear?
