A Summer Wedding: What I Wore!

19th August 2018

Hey everyone!

Wow it’s been a little while since I did a fashion post about clothing. I’ll be honest with you, Summer fashion isn’t usually my jam. Summer in general isn’t really. As much as I like the long light days for photography reasons and the uplifted spirit a lot of people seem to carry, warm weather makes me feel unwell. Even more so now I have a chronic illness. So I have really not been feeling getting all dressed up in this heatwave, it’s made me miserable! Luckily for me and my summer scrooge sidekicks, it’s cooled down slightly now so I can enjoy wearing actual clothes and applying makeup again!

The last wedding I went to was almost 6 years ago now and I was a bridesmaid so I didn’t get to style myself. I’ve recently had my 22nd birthday so I think I’m coming to that age where the first of my friends are starting to settle down and get married. Jake and I, however, are in no rush. We’re coming up to our five year anniversary and I couldn’t be happier with where we are now. We always think it’s funny as out of all the couples around our age that we know, we have been together the longest, yet we are so much more laid back about the idea of marriage, children etc than everyone else.

I think it’s going to be a long while before we do any of that stuff and I’m totally okay with it. I think these younger years are the ones to find yourself and your passions. I’m supremely lucky to have found someone so amazing to stand by my side through the terrible twenties whilst letting me do my own thing, loving yet not smothering me and I hope he feels the same about me. Also little shout out to him for taking these shots of me, he’s becoming quite the blog photographer… This is the first wedding we attended as a couple and I adored dancing the night away with him and my friends! Anyway, enough soppiness, the wedding vibes are getting to me! Here is what I wore…

Clothing For A Summer Wedding

I struggled at first to know what to wear. Being an alternative fashion and black clothing lover, I panicked as you’re supposedly not meant to wear black to a wedding. Black clothing is the only sort of formal wear I tend to feel comfortable in but I thought I’d do my best to push the boat out as it’s Summer and I hadn’t properly dressed up in the longest time. I also said I wouldn’t wear heels, which I did and almost instantly regretted it. I am really not used to them and by the time we were making our way home to chill out prior to the reception, I was walking like a penguin stepping on nails. Not practical but hey they looked good.

Accessories For A Summer Wedding

I wanted my accessories to be quite feminine and soft to match my outfit. In my opinion, nothing says that like rose gold. I was also going to wear my new Adexe watch but forgot to put it on due to rushing around. I always turn to these pieces for events and special occasions as they’re just so gorgeous and easy to pair with so many different outfits. Every time I wear them it reminds me that I need to pick up some more rose gold jewellery for every day wear.

Makeup & Hair For A Summer Wedding

Last but not least, bringing the look together. My original plan as I was wearing a pretty loud and colourful outfit was plain old liner and red lips. As it’s a summer wedding I didn’t want anything too heavy either as I didn’t want it to be melting off of my face. Then I remembered that I’m a cryer. Would there be much worse than some nice black smudges around my eyes? I opted for a soft brown and gold smokey eye instead to go with the red lips. I thought it worked really well as it meant no weird dark smudges and ended up a really subtle and simple pretty look. For my hair I just took the standard route of adding a few curls and then decided it looked a lot better up with the neckline of my bodysuit.

I’m sure we’ll have a lot more to attend over the coming years and have already been invited to one next Summer! Have you attended a Summer wedding and what did you wear?

’Til Next Time,
BTB Xx

You may disagree with me here, but bright colours really suit you, especially that yellow. You look absolutely gorgeous. Your hair is stunning, you look so happy too! At summer weddings, I always stick with dresses with usually a floral print of some sort, or subtle patterns. I much prefer summer weddings as I love summer fashion, but even at winter weddings, I still wear summer style and just freeze a little on the inside!

Thank you so much! It’s really odd as for some reason, I feel like the only shade of yellow that suits me is like blindingly bright yellow haha. Mustard really doesn’t suit me at all and it makes me so sad as I love it! Hahah bless you, I haven’t yet attended a Winter wedding as a guest, I was a bridesmaid at the only one I’ve attended so I froze anyway! Xx

Ah you look so lovely Alice! Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous like that! I always find it hard with what to wear to a wedding – you never want to choose the same colour at the bridesmaids dresses either cos that’s just awkward.. I did that before at my Auntie’s wedding, oops!!xo

Thank you so much Char ☺️❤️ I know haha and I feel like a lot of the time, pale pink is the bridesmaids colour and it’s such a popular choice for wedding guests dresses too! Xx
