I’m trying to catch up with the posts I would’ve wrote/uploaded during the end of December had I not taken a break so a few might seem like they’re being uploaded a tad late. But if we’re being honest, as long as they’re worth reading, no one really cares.
Todays post is all about “The Makeup Challenge” we did on Boxing Day at Jakes. It was brilliant, hilarious and slightly terrifying. This won’t be a very text-heavy post but there will be quite a few photos for you to feast your eyes on and hey why not decide who YOU think should win?
It’s been a good few years now since I properly engulfed myself in all things beauty. I worked, lived and breathed it at one point which brought me to starting up this blog. My first post went live in January 2017 but to be honest my first few posts weren’t too great and I didn’t put that much effort into them or join in with the community – so I consider my blog to have really started when I went self-hosted in August 2017. Jake’s family started to read my posts and enjoy them, the beauty ones were especially a hit with Jake’s dad, Andrew!
As a result, Andrew has ended up using more skincare and secretly itching to get his hands on some makeup to try it out for himself. From this was born: The Makeup Challenge. The idea was that everyone paired up (Jake has 3 siblings, so with his parents it matched perfectly at 6 people) and made each other up. I was of course the judge, the photographer and the person that oversaw the competition. Now, embarrassingly I had enough makeup that I wanted to get rid of to facilitate the challenge, so no money or resources were really wasted for this game.
As Jake has two make-up wearing sisters in their twenties, you’d think they’d have an unfair advantage. But I think some are mistaken as applying makeup to yourself and to others are two completely different talents. Once you’ve studied and practised with your own face, it’s quite easy to apply it every day. Whereas, as a makeup artist, you’re dealing with different skin tones and types, face shapes, eye shapes and colours, lip shapes and colours, brows etc so it’s much harder to be able to know what suits every one. For example, put a brown lipstick on me and I look like I’ve just wolfed down a mars bar. It looks absolutely wonderful on other people, though.
This is Andrews look on Milly. We thought this was clearly the most “wearable” look of the three. Although it’s a little amateur and colourful, you definitely wouldn’t take much notice if you saw her walking down the street as you would with the other two!
This is Millys look on Andrew. We were sure Andrew was going to be made into some sort of drag queen – it was a real shame we didn’t have a wig to finish the look, though! The hat and pose really gives it an extra something. Dame Ednas’ new BFF.
SO what is your favourite look? Do you have a clear winner? I didn’t end up picking one as we thought every one had themed their looks very differently, so it wasn’t fair to pick one clear winner!
Would you and your family play The Makeup Challenge?
