Hey everyone!
When I first started this blog back a couple of years now, my interest in beauty was a lot different. Back then I was more focused on high coverage and heavy eyeshadow whereas now I’m much more interested in rocking the fresh faced, natural glow look.
Along with not wanting to look like I’ve got a lot of makeup on, I also don’t want to FEEL like I’ve got a lot of makeup on. I have been looking far and wide for a BB cream that would give me a light to medium coverage with a dewy and glowy finish. The biggest issue I found was that BB creams don’t tend to come in specific shades a lot of the time. Any time I found one that was pale enough for me, it seemed to have a pink undertone, whereas I am much more yellow.
Aside from the fact I want more of a natural look, my skin has also changed massively in the last year or so. I used to be firmly combination/oily but since having my surgery and coming off of my medication, my skin has took a drastic turn to the dry side. I still get the odd oily nose and forehead but it’s nothing a bi-weekly mask doesn’t sort. As a BB cream is essentially just a tinted moisturiser, I was hoping it’d help with keeping my skin as healthy and nourished as possible.
Even after reading reviews, swatching loads in drug stores and trying the “matching skintone” products, I could not find one that suited my skin and its needs. I resorted to wearing concealer and powder to try and give the no makeup-makeup vibe I was looking for.
Upon attending an appointment with the Clinique counter recently to talk about their free gift event (you can read that post here!), they applied the Clinique Moisture Surge SheerTint on me. If I’m honest, I didn’t expect much from it as I had kind of given up on finding something I’d love. The extra light shade was applied on me with a buffing brush and I fell in love with it as soon as I looked in the mirror. Unfortunately they were completely out of stock on the counter but I couldn’t wait so I ordered it as soon as I got home.
I’ve had the chance to wear the Clinique Moisture Surge Sheer Tint a fair few times now, so thought I’d give my verdict on how I’m getting on with it and whether I’d recommend it.
The Clinique Moisture Surge Sheer Tint* was actually released quite a while ago under a different name, however they discontinued it. After many complaints, it was brought back with a new design and a new formula. From what I can see, there has been very mixed reviews on the comeback product. Some loving the revamp and others saying that Clinique have ruined it. If a product was discontinued, especially by such a big brand, there’s always a valid reason. It may not have been selling well, there may have been a problem with sourcing one or more of the ingredients, some sort of copyright issue, who knows!
The new Clinique Moisture Surge Sheer Tint formula is SPF 25, contains hyaluronic acid and activated aloe water and is oil free. It claims to keep skin plumped and dewy with a fresh and natural finish for 12 hours. But what do I think of it?
When I was wearing my trusty Revolution Conceal and Define foundation, I was committed to using a sponge. It provided me with great coverage, a soft finish and no streaks or lines. However as this is a BB cream, the formula is much thinner and in my opinion needs the use of a dense brush for it to reach its full potential. I’ve been using the Clinique Moisture Surge Sheer Tint with the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush and I can’t begin to describe how much of a match made in heaven they are.
Buffing the product into the skin with this brush provides an even, glowy finish and light to medium coverage. It feels light and moisturising on the skin and in my opinion is the perfect base for every day wear. I also used it as a base in my Halloween makeup look here!
It’s very rare that I wear a primer so that isn’t something I can comment on with this product as I’m yet to try it with one. However, I always apply a moisturiser before makeup and I can definitely vouch that this product lasts a damn decent length of time without a primer. I have tried it with both a loose translucent setting powder and a pressed coloured powder. The pressed powder definitely won on the longevity side of things but I did find it made my face more matte than I’d ideally wanted. My next aim is to find a setting powder with great longevity but also doesn’t dull the lovely glow from the BB cream.
I’ve worn this for full and busy days and still been impressed with my makeup at the end of it. I’ve worn it through many naps and for a photo shoot in London that led into a night out with a lot of dancing and it survived better than averagely well. I’d give it a strong 7.5/10 for longevity which is honestly a lot better than I would expect for a BB cream.
I love it. I love love love LOVE it. I’m so happy to have found a product that meets all of my needs and works so well for me. I haven’t worn any sort of proper foundation since I bought it, even for occasions. You can buy it on their site HERE* or if you fancy trying before you buy, you can also pick up a sample of it from a Clinique counter to see if you love it as much as I do.
Do you have a BB cream that you love using or are you more of a foundation wearer?
’Til Next Time,

You know what, I’ve never ever read a post where my immediate reaction was ‘oh my goodness, I need to pick up a sample of this!’. New makeup, makeup look is my go to these days. I love how effortless this product seems, and it looks so healthy on the skin. Love it!
