Hey everyone!
I’m a self-confessed red lipstick addict. I’m just drawn to them. I’m not sure whether it’s because my favourite colour is red or as it’s the colour that I feel looks best on me. Either way, if you ever see me looking at lipsticks, you can guarantee that I’ll be eyeing up a red shade that I probably already have many really similar to. They’re never EXACTLY the same though, okay?
I believe that there is a red lipstick for everyone, it’s just about finding the right shade for your skin tone and hair. For example, as a bleach blonde and pale woman, reds with too much of an orange undertone really do not suit me. They wash me out and sometimes just make me look ridiculous or they appear almost neon in contrast to my complexion. Here are my personal top 5 favourite red lipsticks for those with blonde hair!
Before I worked there, I really slept on The Body Shop. The majority of their makeup products are actually super gorgeous with great formulas and longevity and don’t get me started on how much I adore their skin and body care. When they first released their matte lip liquids*, I bought almost every shade as they were affordable, so easy to wear and looked lovely. The mauritius dahlia shade was and is my go to for a comfortable and sophisticated every day red lip. It also has a gothic flair and blue undertone to it, influencing more of a warm, burgundy appearance.
They also have a shade in their matte lipstick range that is almost identical to mauritius dahlia called osaka plum, so if you’re not a lip liquid kind of person, there’s also that option, too! I love both of them but the matte lipstick is a better formula if you’re eating and drinking as it’s easier for re-application. However, the lip liquid is better for general longevity.
A purple/plum based red for more of a vampy vibe. I fell in love with this shade almost instantly due to its soft but striking contrast and versatility. I’m yet to find an eyeshadow look or an outfit that it doesn’t compliment. The Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips are also unique in that they’re infused with rosehip oil and vitamin e, as well as their applicators being called the “Pixi petal” which I absolutely adore using. It helps give such a perfect application, smooth finish and is a nice little extra to the overall lipstick. This is a strong contender for my favourite ever red lipstick for blonde hair.
A recent and very welcome addition to my red lipstick for blonde hair collection. As soon as I put this on, I knew it was going to be a favourite of mine as it contrasts so beautifully with pale tones. Despite it having the word “berry” in the name, I wouldn’t call the shade as such however they definitely have more berry-like shades in this collection. The USP of Antipodes lipsticks is that they’re “so healthy, you could almost eat them” and whilst I trust their statement, it’s not something I can say I’ll be trying anytime soon. The avocado oil, calendula oil and argan oil in the formula do however make for a rather luxurious, pigmented and durable formula.

When I bought this lipstick*, I didn’t realise just how much I’d come to fall in love with the Hollywood Lips formula. I’ve tried the Charlotte Tilbury matte revolution lipsticks, however I wasn’t completely sold. Hollywood Lips products provide a really comfortable cream formula, with a curved applicator for shaping and this shade in particular is a winner.
I’d describe dangerous liaison as a smokey mauve-red and the website backs that up with a similar depiction of “warm rusty-rose”. A definite softer red lipstick for blonde hair but something I’d describe as a very sultry shade. Perfect for pairing with a subtle smokey eye or just simply fluttery lashes.
The brightest red of the bunch. This is such a true, vibrant red and it’s incredibly eye-catching on whoever wears it. It’s got just the right amount of orange tone in it to make it a perfect match for us blondes but not too peachy to wash us out. I also must stress that the “stay all day*” title this lipstick has is incredibly true to its word. It does not budge, to the point I usually have to use three different cleansers to properly remove this from my lips. Definitely a perfect formula for wearing onstage but possibly a bit too much effort to remove for some.
What kind of red lipstick suits you the best?
’Til Next Time,
BTB Xx

Love this! I used to wear makeup every day and felt like my look wasn’t complete without lipstick. These days I don’t wear much makeup, but I’m always fascinated to know more and discover what might look best on my skin tone.
As a pale person with lilac hair, I particularly find it difficult because I don’t want my makeup to seem too vibrant or over the top, so more often than not I wear very little. I love the Pixi Matt liquid lip that you’ve demonstrated though and can see that I’d wear that shade all the time once life resumes I begin making more of an effort again.

You really pull of a great red lipstick! I have dark hair, but rarely wear lipstick as I feel ‘overdone’, but seeing your post inspires me to make a bit more of an effort to find the right colour for me. I particularly loved the Dangerous Liaison lippy on you!

I cannot pick a favorite! I love all five of these colors because I love vibrant reds. I lean toward lighter colors, but the Body Shop lipstick is an admirable, wine shade that immediately caught my eye!

Wow red lipsticks look amazing on you! I rarely wear them because I have a small mouth so I need something that’s more of a nude shade otherwise I look like a doll. That said, I do like the look of the Stila one, although I’d probably apply it very lightly and then slick a balm over the top. Gorgeous pics! xx
